Flipping Formatives: formative data in a flipped classroom to keep students on track!

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

In this workshop, we will combine elements of a flipped classroom with choice menus and playlists to create the ultimate student pathway for learning. Students are given a formative assessment to check for understanding to begin class, which will be used as a baseline to drive instruction. Then, students will use their formative score to determine their targeted instruction for the period. Based on their score, students will participate in different flexible groups such as small group targeted instruction with the teacher, practice for missing concepts, and extension activities for students who have achieved mastery to promote deeper learning. This digital model allows for immediate feedback for students and immediate data collection for you! After participants get a first-hand look at the model, we will focus on how to set up structures for this classroom model to promote student ownership - putting the focus on the students! This particular lesson example is from 6th Grade English, however, this model is able to be applied to any grade level and any subject. Examples of other grade level and subject models will be provided for teachers to explore on their own.
