The Subtle Art Of Developing Computational Thinkers in K-12

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Developing Computational Thinking skills in the students of Loudoun County Public Schools is an undertaking that we are currently invested which started with implementing extracurricular coding activities like the Hour of Code, examining robotics, and using block based platforms like Scratch and iOS coding apps like Swift. These initial steps bolstered the enthusiasm of our students and assisted them in understanding the importance of learning Computer Science. The integration of Computer Science into the core curriculum has gained much traction in our division and we would like to share the journey that LCPS has taken to establishing a wall-to-wall PBL School for Computational Thinking with you! From the accomplishments seen at our three Computer Science Immersion Elementary Schools to the addition of three Computer Science Instructional Facilitators co-facilitating with teachers at 15 Elementary Schools in grades K-2 and five Middle Schools in grade 6, please learn how LCPS has developed strategies to enhance the Computational Thinking skills of our students.
