Train of Thought: How Changing Buzzwords Changes Perceptions

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Project Based Learning, Standards Based Grading, Gamification - all buzzwords for state-of-the-art education. But have we been on this train ride before? How frequently have you heard (or thought) as an educator, “Oh we’ve done this before.” New initiatives are old ideas dressed up with new names. But are they really? Or can changing the words we use help transition learning from the steam engine to a bullet train? This session will be an interactive discussion on how the choice of vocabulary to describe a pedagogy or concept can shift tracks and create a change in perception for both the learner and the educator. We will use Pear Deck’s Flashcard Factory to build the discussion as a group and provide take-aways for future discussions.
