Welcome Welcome to Virginia’s world famous Technology in Education conference. Using this tool to mark your personal scheduling preferences does not reserve a seat for marked sessions, nor does it register you for the conference. We do not plan to have paper programs available on site. If you would like a printed program, please print a personal copy prior to arriving at the conference.
Goochland has, for three years now, supported innovative solutions toward deeper learning with projects by leveraging its partnership with its education foundation to provide grants to teachers. Students benefit from the ingenuity of our teachers who many times work in teams to design and implement meaningful, relevant instruction through high-quality project-based learning. While we know that providing grants to teachers isn’t new, we capitalize upon this energy through an end-of-year symposium experience for our grant awardees and other interested teachers throughout our division.
We are excited to share the professional learning model we used to support this initiative in addition to some of the grants/project ideas our teachers generated through their participation in grant writing, teaching, and participation in our end of year Strategic Innovation Symposium. Examples of these projects include the development of a ropes course at our high school, built by students; the creation of an archery range; students harvesting crops at a local farm; the creation of a county-wide celebration that celebrated the diversity of our county’s history and its living citizens; and development of a school coffee store that supported the business of local refugees.
This session supports the needs of teachers by providing PBL ideas that capitalize upon Goochland’s investment in 1:1 technology. This session supports the needs of administrators in how to design and deliver a meaningful PD experience for teachers and technology coaches. And technology coaches will gain insight on how to support the amazing ideas presented by teachers throughout the year with a focus on providing deeper learning experiences for students, capitalizing upon problem solving and critical thinking, personalization, teamwork, real world applications, and empathy toward others.
